The following is an update from your Union Executive Board regarding Layoffs.
On May 27th, 59 Union Members were notified that they would be laid off on June 12, 2020. On the same day the UE Local 1004 Executive Board gathered information, fielded several calls from members and met to develop a plan to address the layoff of 59 employees. The following are the highlights of the UE Local 1004 Executive Board’s recent activity:
- Members of your Local’s Executive Board and UE Staff met with Henry Mayo Management staff on May 29th to discuss the layoff and determine if they are following the procedures outlined in the “Union Contract.” UE is not satisfied with their responses and will file a “class grievance” in an attempt to correct their procedures.
- If you have been notified of your layoff and have 5 year seniority, the UE Local 1004 recommends that you execute your bumping rights by notifying Human Resources in writing before 5:00 pm on June 2nd 2020. If you need assistance the UE will develop a template that will simplify the procedure.
- Henry Mayo Hospital failed to respond to the employee proposals made in April by UE Local 1004 regarding the Covid 19 pandemic. A demand for response was made by your UE Local 1004 Executive Board and Henry Mayo agreed to a response. Items on that proposal included protections, furloughs instead of layoffs, fair work reductions, use of ESL hours instead of PTO, minimizing exposure to vulnerable workers and hazard pay.
- The Executive Board recommends taking action. We strongly encourage all members to support their co-workers during this time . Stay tuned for more information.
